looks like left hand wont be a pretty drive anymore. i was up by there, and from looking at the maps the part that has already burned is the Left Hand OHV area... that area has really been hit hard the past 5 or so years with fires. its too bad too cause it is such a nice trail to drive and see the scenery.

FYI.... I heard the trail is still closed. The fire was started intentionally and started in the area of the tails and shooting area, so they are still investigating the area.

If it is burned really bad it may be shut down all year..... sucketh..... especially if it was arson.

The day of the fire (before it had been lit) the local morning news was chattering non-stop about the extreme fire danger and how the smallest spark could turn into an inferno. It honestly seemed like they were hyping it up as if to coax someone into starting a fire. (maybe so they could have some news?) Anyway, as I was leaving for work I told my wife, "You watch, someone is gonna start a fire today...I guarantee it."

I hate being right all the time.

I'm sure the blame for the arson will be due to the fact that there are off-road trails in the area that allowed access, right?
Good grief Charlie Brown.

Driving down 470, when I heard the news of the fire danger, I thought the same thing!

Let's not forget, if there was a shooting range nearby, guns probably played a part. ;)

Very true about the guns nearby. Most of the people who shoot there are terrible, why can't people clean up after them selves. I would love to shoot there more but i dont want to be associated with the people who are up there. why do people have such a disire to ruin it for everyone, setting a fire and hoping it burns stuff down? people need help sometimes!

The only good news is that whole area has now been mostly burned out, this fire, fire last year, and they had a huge fire about 4 years ago that hit the off road area hard that you can still see when you are up there. Hopefully there wont be a fire in the area again anytime soon, and the forest will come back very healthy, (which is will after a fire):bannana::bannana:

The morning that it started, my girl friend and I went to go check it out and on the way to left hand we stopped at a gas station. A police officer was filling up there too, and he said that the fire was started by someone shooting off incendiary rounds. He didn't say that it was that for sure, but was alluding strongly to it. Its too bad that it happened, its a fun place to be.
