Hello,

With less than two months before goneMOAB I wanted to bring everyone up to date on the latest info.

If you have not registered yet please do so. I will be closing registration on May 1st. This is necessary so I can deal with the below noted permit process. If for some reason you did not register by the deadline send me an email at drborego@hotmail.com.

Things are moving forward. We have a few new sponsors and planning is going great.
In past years we have run goneMOAB as a just show up and go wheeling kind of event. In order to attract more attendees and sponsors there has been an on going effort to make goneMOAB a more formalized event.

This year’s goneMOAB is a fully permitted event from both the BLM and the state of Utah. This is a requirement since the event has grown so large. Running without permits would subject everyone on the trails to possible fines and criminal charges. Of course the permits cost money. The hope was to make the event self-sustaining through money collected from the raffle and t-shirt sales. Due to the overall cost of the permits exceeding what would be taken in from those activates (over 5 thousand dollars) the risk of goneMOAB being cancelled was very real. Luckily Nissan North America has stepped up and has agreed to pay for those fees! This shows a real dedication on the part of Nissan to support the 4-wheel drive community. A big thanks goes out to Nissan for helping out on this.

We will once again have a Primeda magazine title cover the event. This year we will also see support from Nissan Sport Magazine! For those of you that missed the article covering goneMOAB 2006 in 4-Wheel and Sport Utility Magazine visit this link http://www.4wdandsportutility.com/adventures/rockies/0702_4wd_nissans_moab_adventure/index.html

We are still looking for a few folks to volunteer as trail bosses. Those of you that have stepped up and are showing leadership I thank you. Every trail boss and tail gunner on each run will be getting a $25.00 Chevron gas card for every trail they work on.

A few changes to the schedule should be noted. Thursday evening poker night at Eddie Mc’Stiffs is being cancelled. This is for a number of reasons; their ability to accommodate a group of our size for a private event is among them. This evening will be an open evening to do what you like. Friday night’s event has been moved to condo H3 at Rim Village http://www.moabrealty.com/rentals.htm. This is due to the fact that the condo owners association no longer rents out the clubhouse to non-residents of the development.

The organizing of goneMOAB has outstripped the open time that I have available. In order to continue to grow and promote the event I am going to be working on turning the event into a non-profit corporation. To do this I need to get the help of many folks to put together a BOD and also legal and accounting help. If you are interested in helping out please let me know. I would like to have dinner on Thursday night at goneMOAB with those who are interested in helping. To be on the BOD you must have attended at least two previous goneMOAB events and own a Nissan truck or SUV.

See you in Moab!

Doug

Wow that's alot of info thanks doug. I have only been on poison spider, golden spike and gold bar rim. I would love to help out as a tailgunner on any trail. Is this possible with my limited moab experiance? My truck is capable enough, can I help out or do I need to be more familiar with the moab trails?

Thanks for helping out. I'm going to be going through the trails this weekend and making the calls on trail bosses and tailgunners.

See you in Moab!

Tail gunners need to be mechanically knowledgeable. The tail gunner position is one of getting everyone off the trail, even when that means staying and fixing a rig to get them off the trail.

Tail gunning isn't easy. It's just not the last guy on the trail. I repaired several guys on the trail last year. Got them off, and sometimes, just barely! The guy from Texas with no front brakes (literally!) was a chore. The other guy with a left upper control arm (old school Pathy) that came off and stripped the bolts that held it on, that was also a chore to accomplish. Especially when it happened on Hell's Revenge!

So don't take the tail gunner position too lightly. I'm sure as the size get's bigger, it's going to be tougher to get everyone off the trail.

i wouldn't mind being a tail gunner, what do you think about having a fairly unproven truck in the back? i'm decent with a wrench, but not a mechanic.

What does "unproven" mean?

I guess if you can fix your own stuff then yes, you will be considered.

I am going to go through things this weekend and figure it out.

Thanks.

See you in Moab!

Hmmm I didn't know that's what the position was all about. I always run with a full set of tools, straps and recovery gear. However my girlfriend would get pretty upset if we had to run one of those 35 mile trails pulling some one out the whole time. I think I would love to be a tailgunner on any of the days i'm not running the 4+ trails. For the 4+ trails i'd like to relax and wheel with the crowd. There is that jeep guy in moab who will tow people out he's a dick but he will do it. When I was there someone had run a H2 on poison spider and of coarse he destroyed it so the jeep guy (mr. dickhead) towed him out for some ungodly price.

well, i guess i am still building it, so i'm not sure how it will do and i haven't driven an SFA truck in a long time. i plan to test it before i come out there, and i can fix anything on it that breaks, unless it needs welding (just don't have an on board welder yet). plus i drive slow, and have no idea how the front locker is going to do so i might be getting out and messing with the hub a lot. i was there last year, but didn't drive and only rode the first three days, so i don't know how well you need to know the trails but if you need someone, i'll be glad to help.

It should be black by then :D

I hope to paint mine black this year. I started on the hood last year. It was all oxidized. The left rear fender had some rust so its all flat black primer since 2005.

I would love to get mine painted before GONE.

Oh damn I thought Ryan was doing the red trails so my girlfriend and i switched over to those... Then I noticed that blue trails where harder like i first thought. So now I'm gonna have to ask Doug to switch me back. If anyone here knows him please tell him I'm not a complete moron.... thanks

Dude,

Email me with the trails you want to run. I want to make sure that you are still tail gunning Hell's on Tuesday.

See you in Moab!
