My old sliders were 1.5" square tube, 1/8 wall. They were nice and light, but too thin; they bent a bit on the rocks. I helped Martin build some out of 2x3 1/4 wall tube that we got real cheap at the scapyard. Nothing short of a nuclear blast will bend them, but they weigh about 145 lbs. So I built mine out of 2x2 3/16 wall. I couldn't get scrap, had to spring for new steel, but they weigh in at about 75lbs and I think anything that bends them will end up doing worse damage to other parts of the truck.

Jeff - good to hear it went well. Less rust problems than with Matt's I hope?

Man thats great, it took me all day at my shop. I was stuck doing it out back, because we were too busy to use the lift. After extending shift levers and cutting out radiator support, and r&r bumper it was about 12 hours. Not very much fun
