This morning I was going to check my alternator belt since it has started to squeak at start up. I took the skid plate off & crawl under. The is see the bolt holding the alternator on sticking out about 2 inches. I had to remove the radiator & fan to tap it back through to see if the nut just came off or if the bolt broke. Well the bolt broke where the nut would go on.

How can this bolt keep breaking on the back end? The only thing I can think of is that the bracket is bent or out of alignment putting extra shear force on the rear side. I have the Mean Green but don't think it is the problem, because it has happened with a stock alternator.

Has anyone else ever heard of the back bolt snapping?

How hard is it to replace the bracket holding the alternator? Should I replace it? If so can someone far more mechanically inclined than me help?

FYI, the last time the back bolt broke, I decided to drill through the bracket & use one through bolt to replace the two. Went with a grade 8, 3/8" bolt.

I just replaced the bolt. Painless enough if you say removing the radiator is painless.

If it breaks again, Then I will consider replacing the bracket.

It all working now. just need to go wash the coolant off the frame.
