I think I fixed my mystery random alt issue. The ground wire for the alt was connected to a painted bolt on the painted core support. Should have been on the inner fender. The bolt was covered in mud.

eh it's cool, most of what i have left is one person stuff anyway. just gotta get out and do it. coil buckets, brakes, shocks, driveshaft and exhaust. problem is all this damn rust, adds huge amounts of work when i find it.

I ordered some new upper conrol bushings just in case my axle is not ready. I'm still hoping its ready by wednesday it all depends on how easy the diff grears go in. I'll definatly be breaking in some crawler gears out there though.
Hey Ryan, if I don't end up doing my SAS wednesday do you want some help with the pathy? I'd be willing to help all day. I might try to steal you for 5 min though to weld some chain on my motor mount if thats cool.

Freaked out?! Hell yeah! Between the wife and the PhoeniX, I'm a basket of stress. She finally broke down (the wife) and explained that I'm spending too much time with the bitch (PhoeniX) and that she's feeling neglected. Geesh man, can women be like cars, give 'em a little "rotation" and be good for a bit?!

Tell here that goneMOAB will be over before she knows it. After it's over you will spend some time with her before you move on to the next stages with the PhoeniX.
Maybe she needs a hobby. Buy her a vacuum cleaner and an iron (don't even tell her I said that).
So what's still left to do on the PhoeniX?
See you in Moab!

Well, this morning I'm cutting the entire front suspension out. Should be sitting on 35's by this afternoon. I'll make a front drive shaft for her, but if I don't have the correct tubing, then that will be sent out. I have to adapt the parking brake cables to the 9", and seal a hole in the housing (got a little happy with the torch when cutting off the original perches!). Oh, and make the front steering setup, but that shouldn't take too long. A full day's work, for sure.

I am still waiting on some small stuff to show up via UPS.
I guess I won't have sliders this year either.

so i might be 2wd. i can't figure out what to do about my exhaust. the driveshaft has to go right where the collector is, and i don't see any way I can get around it. so i'm going to worry about what i can do, and try to get as close as i can. shock mounts and button up the brakes tonight, emissions and license plates tomorrow, tires mounted friday, then build the driveshaft on saturday. just have to see what happens, i may be paying a visit to an exhaust shop on monday morning and being a day late.

Heres what we have done on 3 SAS in TX. Get some flex tube the same size as the Y pipe. Cut out the offending section and relpace with flex.
This pic is my header 2" Y pipe. Stock is much smaller. Danimal used 2" flex on his stock Y pipe. And it work.
http://nissannut.com/projects/sas/trans_crossmember/crossmember_dshaft.JPG
This is similar to my current setup.
http://nissannut.com/projects/headers/Y_pipe.JPG
I have since rebuilt the whole section.

ok well i got some 1 3/4" flex pipe, but i couldn't tell what to do with it. so i need to cut out the whole y pipe and make a new one basically for the flex pipe to attach to?

Cut JUST enough to clear the driveshaft.
Dan did it with the stock Y pipe. Let me see if I can find a pic.

He did a cut and turn, so the driveshaft is WAY higher. If yours is still stock, it will clear better.
When I did my cut and turn, I had to rework the exhaust all over again..

i'll have to wait till i get home, i can see some pics and not others here at work. i did C&T, about 14*, so it is way high on mine too.
thanks

OK so what I did was take the Y pipe part and cut off the flange and turn the pass side inlet, then reweld.
Packman5280
05-14-2007, 11:33 AM
so instead of being a Y it was more like a sideways T? i could see that working.
NissanNut
05-14-2007, 01:22 PM
One of mine was a T. But I noticed a power difference. So I did more of a Y. The trick is to turn the input to the side instead of down. Down is bad. You want it out the side and up and over the driveshaft.
Ryan did a beautiful job on his. From the pix I saw.

got it running. took it out of the garage and drove it into the street, then right back into the driveway. it makes some weird banging noises, hopefully that goes away. and how do you tell if vibration while driving is the driveshaft? i think i got the angle right, same as the t-case output, but now there is a vibration when i drive and i'm not sure what it is.
DamnHippie
05-16-2007, 06:12 PM
I've been trying to track down a driveline vibration for almost two years. The one thing I'm sure of is that it's driveshaft-related, and I figured that out by putting the truck on stands under the frame and running it with the wheels in the air. With a hand on the frame and watching the driveshaft spin, you can tell the vibrations are exactly the frequency of the spinning. In my case, I have to have a bit of a load on the back wheels for it to happen, like have the e-brake on a few clicks.
3 people who are or have been professional mechanics tell me that the problem isn't bad u-joints. I'm considering replacing them anyway at this point, because I dunno what else it could be.
Allen Cox

U-joints are easy to replace. Let me know Ian, and we can do them on a weekend.
