Anyone have (or know someone that has) subs in a Frontier or other truck cab? I'm trying to figure out where to put them without taking out the back seat. It looks like they could go behind the back seat, but that'd have to be a really skinny box. Anyone know someone that makes boxes?

Try looking on crutchfield. I think they have some very slim boxes. I believe kenwood makes one.

It looks like the best option would be to do 2 6x9s. Any opinion on 6x9s? Theres a couple Alpine 6x9s, 275w on ebay right now I'm thinking about.

Edit: Apparently most people I talked to said to not get 6x9s because they're basically big door speakers, not subs.

if your looking for bass that wont help that much, i used to have an infinity basslink sub that was really small and sounded good. look it up.

Yea I've been thinking about the Basslink for years now.....just trying to explore putting an actual box in.

Yea, 6x9's are more of a door speaker than a sub. I had a setup in my pathy that's now collecting dust. It's a 10" Orion XTR 800w with a Sony (I think) amp. I got tired of taking the sub out every time I needed the space so now it just sits in my garage. I also found out that more bass doesn't = better sound so I dropped some money on Boston Acoustic speakers for the doors and am much happier.

Several low profile powered subs.

Would you suggest running powered subs? I don't care that much about bass either, I don't listen to rap but I would like some bass to pick up the sound a little. I'm just wondering what (if any) the sound difference would be between powered subs and a sub + amp set-up. Also the power difference. Do you have any problems killing batteries or did you change out the alternator?

6x9's are just a bad design in general, one side of the speaker has to push a large amount of mass than the other.

If you don't care about bass so much then I would just skip out on subs all together, just put your money into some nice component door speakers and put an amp on those. Like the Infinity Kappa perfect 6.1, Linky (http://www.infinitysystems.com/car/products/product_detail.aspx?prod=KAPPA%20PERFECT6.1&cat=KPE&ser=KPE&Language=ENG&Country=US&Region=USA)

Pretty much all subs need to be powered, you aren't going to be able to get much sound off a sub running it from your deck. Unless you are referring to a basslink setup where the amp is built into the unit.

I would say you need to upgrade alternator, battery and other ground wires if you are running a larger powered system, like 1500 watts.

Well, strangely enough, I do have Kappas. I love them for most of the sound, but I just need that extra bass that components don't give. I didn't mean running a sub off of my deck, I just wasn't sure of the difference between powered subs (ex: the Basslink, subs with amps built in) and a seperate amp and sub box, but I've done some reading and pretty much get the difference. Do you think I'd have to upgrade my battery and alternator if I ran a 500w amp and like one 10 or 12" sub?

You should upgrade your ground wiring, but not necessarily the battery and alternator. Going with some good heavy ground wire (4ga or better) from battery-to-engine and battery- or engine-to-body can make a big difference for a few bucks. I use 1ga for "the big 3" wires. I upgraded as part of my engine swap, mainly in anticipation of getting a winch later this year.

Not nessacarly the case, one other option that you could go with that i would recommond any way is getting a cap. the bigger the the better off youll be.
As for the bass question, i would recommond that you look it to getting a single 8 or 10 inch, these imo will give you the best bass quality for you money and wont take up that much room

I've been told caps are crap by a few people, I used to run a 1 farad and I honestly don't know if it made much difference (maybe it wasn't big enough). As Damnhippie said the best is to upgrade the ground wiring.

well thats needed too but the reason for a cap is to give an extra oomph when needed, like for those real long deep bass hits. The point of a cap is so you can tell its working
